Who we are

Meet the Owners of Nola Esoteric

J. "Ursa Major" Campos + Rev. C. R. Patton

Welcome to our about the owners page. It seems you'd like to get to know us a little better as human people. We're not really sure what to say. But we can tell you a few collective things. We're not cool kids, we don't know what it's like to be "cool". We just are what we are. The right people find us and we are always happy to help. We send personal touches with each order. A little note or some lagniappe. At Nola Esoteric what we do is specific. We're proud of that. We're picky as fuck and we don't take shortcuts.  What we can tell you about ourselves, is that we are real. There is much work to be done. We humbly thank you for your support.

Christy grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was an awkward homeschooled kid. The mid 1990s was an era that pre-dated reliable internet services. Her early interests in tarot, astrology, herbalism, and numerology came from unlikely places and past life memories. Most of her occult interests, excepting medicinal herbalism, were difficult to cultivate considering her religious home. Christy's formative years were spent mostly in seclusion, drawing, reading, and listening to classical music. With no shortage of church + school bullies, she turned to astrology for answers and the magic roots for protection. In her teens she began practicing Tarot and offering readings. She studied studio arts and later behavioral neuroscience in college. Now twenty or more years later she's worked with a naturopathic doctor, as a professional artist, and retired from the service industry in 2008. Christy founded New Orleans School for Esoteric Arts in May 2014. The nearly twenty year goal of birthing a healing + educational center has been her life's work. Nosea provides a safe space for esoteric education, truth, and self realization. She lives uptown and is a professional astrologer, natural products broker, writer, tinkering musician, visual artist, and mama.

Josie is a Latinx Brujx from Miami, Florida and a descendant of campesinos + radical revolutionaries. She is Cuban + Costa Rican. Mercury dominant, she grew up with her head in books and a paint brush in hand, studying all religions and mythologies possible while being raised strict Roman Catholic. Like her grandmother, she was a devout follower of Mary. They wouldn’t let Josie be a priest and dedicate her life to Mary, so she ate of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge and became the Devil. She followed her Spirits to New Orleans and has not looked back. She met Christy in this life as an intern at NOSEA and helped her create Nola Esoteric. Josie strives to provide tools and information to empower womyn to further de-colonize + extinguish the patriarchal system within spirituality. In her free time Josie enjoys eating burritos, hanging out with her cat and looking at dog memes, and cemetery strolls. She lives in the Irish Channel and will graduate in 2017 with a degree in writing.
